With the OnePlus Buds Pro, we got a pair of premium wireless earbuds from OnePlus in a market that’s becoming increasingly competitive – and now we get our first look at what the company has planned for a sequel.
at 91 mobile phones (opens in a new tab)there are some high-quality renders showing what the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 are purported to be (though of course we can’t be sure until they’re actually launched). From these photos, it doesn’t look like much has changed in terms of design.
New is the olive green color option shown in these renders – the original OnePlus Buds Pro came in matte black or glossy white. Design similarities include the charging case, which looks more or less the same.
what to expect
We don’t know much about what the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will bring with it in terms of features and functionality, but this latest report suggests Danish speaker maker Dynaudio was involved in the production of the earbuds.
The first OnePlus Buds Pro brought active noise cancellation with them, so it seems certain that the new pair will offer this feature again. Battery life, which has increased to 24 hours with the OnePlus Buds Pro, could also improve.
There have been no rumors of a OnePlus Buds Pro 2 release date that we’ve come across, although considering the original pair was announced in July 2021, the successors are now long overdue – early 2023. It looks like it could be be a good bet for an official launch.
Analysis: a lot of choice
There’s certainly no shortage of choice when it comes to wireless earbuds: that’s great for consumers, but means it can be hard for manufacturers to differentiate their products. OnePlus already has multiple versions of its wireless earbuds on sale.
Then, of course, we have to mention Apple, which has the most common price points well covered with AirPods Pro 2 ($249 / £249 / AU$399) and AirPods 3 (from $169 / £179 / AU$279). These options are hard to overlook, especially for iPhone users.
Google has the premium Pixel Buds Pro ($199 / £179 / AU$299) and the cheaper Pixel Buds A series ($99 / £99.99 / AU$159), while Samsung offers the Galaxy Buds 2 ($149.99 / AU$139.99). £99/$219) and the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro ($229/£219/AU$349).
We think once again, OnePlus could use the price as its biggest selling point: the original OnePlus Buds Pro retailed for $149.99 / £139 when they launched, and anything near that mark would be, but their successors in good in terms of affordability.
