The Elder Scrolls 6 release date and platforms
Don’t hold your breath Elder Scrolls 6 release date – you won’t be exploring its dungeons anytime soon. Despite being announced at Bethesda’s E3 2018 conference, little more than a logo has been revealed, and more than four years later, we still have some solid details about the next Elder Scrolls game. We don’t even have credits or year of release. Todd Howard said the game will be later Starfieldthe company’s next big IP, while Xbox boss Phil Spencer said it won’t be released until later fairy tale 4. Given Starfield is due to be released in the first half of 2023 i Fairy tale no release date yet, have to wait Elder Scrolls 6 it’s supposed to be long.
Similarly, platforms for Elder Scrolls 6 have yet to be confirmed, but given Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media, PC and Xbox Series S|X releases are almost certain. A PS5 release is much less certain though, as Microsoft may decide to make the new Elder Scrolls game an Xbox exclusive. Similarly, Xbox One and PS4 releases seem extremely unlikely because Starfield shows that Bethesda is moving away from the previous generation of hardware.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Trailer
Latest trailer
The only recording we have Elder Scrolls 6 is a very short fragment of the game’s logo. Besides, you can wait a bit to see more. Here’s the teaser trailer:
Elder Scrolls 6: where will it be set?
We’re willing to bet that, like all the other games in the series, Elder Scrolls 6 will take place on the continent of Tamriel. Previous games have taken us to High Rock, Hammerfell, Morrowind, Cyrodil and Skyrim. Valenwood, Elsweyr and Black Marsh are the biggest places left to explore. However, even if these areas are the best places to explore, that doesn’t mean Bethesda won’t revisit areas from previous games.
There were rumors that Elder Scrolls 6 may be set in Valenwood, home of the Bosmer. This is an area of Tamriel that Bethesda hasn’t explored much and this is based on reported internal Bethesda memo since 2014. In this note, Bethesda employees were reportedly warned against using the terms Fallout: Nuka World, Elder Scrolls VI, or Project Greenheart.
It’s hard to tell from the short clip from E3 that shows the game. However, since its showing, general opinion has shifted towards the idea that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be set in either Hammerfell or High Rock.
The rumors about Hammerfell are confirmed by a post from the official Elder Scrolls Twitter late 2020 account. This says “rewrite the past and map the future” and shows an image with an unmapped region of Hammerfell. However, there’s a chance that this trailer doesn’t refer to Elder Scrolls 6 at all.
Of course, those of us who know the world of Tamriel through Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim and yes, even Elder Scrolls Online, the whole world is a veritable expanse of different lands and places to set the game. One thing we know for sure; wherever this ends up, we can expect to complete many side quests.
News from The Elder Scrolls 6
Fallout 5 comes after The Elder Scrolls 6
In an interview with IGN (opens in a new tab)this was confirmed by Todd Howard Fallout 5 will be the next Bethesda project Elder Scrolls 6.
“Yeah, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and then we’ll be doing Fallout 5, so our roster is pretty full for a while,” Howard told the publication. “We also have a few other projects that we look at from time to time.”
Bethesda is willing to take the time to get it right
Elder Scrolls 6 it’s probably still a few years away, but that’s not because Bethesda is deliberately lingering. In an interview with IGN (opens in a new tab)when discussing the gap between Skyrim and its sequel, Howard said, “Are you planning on having the kind of gap we have in between Skyrim and the sequel? I can’t say it’s good. Wish I could wave my wand and play the game we wanted to make […] just left? Absolutely.”
However, according to Howard, Bethesda felt it was time to try something new Starfield AND The Elder Scrolls Online meant the Elder Scrolls franchise was in a relatively good place.
“Having said that,” he added, “everything is taking longer than we’d like, but we want to make sure we get it right. I hope Elder Scrolls 6 isn’t saying hey it’s worth the wait, but that it will hold up the series because it was in a really big, impactful way when it comes out.
