Tango Gameworks, the studio behind The Evil Within series, has revealed its new game – and it’s far from the usual studio offering.
The developer revealed during the Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct presentation Hi-Fi Rushstylish rhythmic action game reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim will be available on January 25 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
With a comic-like graphic style Radio jet, HiFi Rush sees you step into the sneakers of Chai, a would-be rock star who, after being mistakenly attached to the heart of a music player by an evil tech conglomerate, can sense the beat of almost anything, allowing you to turn your world into a living soundtrack.
We have a rhythm
Chai must work his way through the corporate headquarters, department by department, trying to thwart their evil plans, with every attack and movement synchronized to the game’s lively soundtrack. But not only Chai has rhythm, obstacles, cutscenes, enemies and many other elements that play a role in this musical game. By using the rhythm and attacking to the rhythm, you’ll be able to improve Chai’s combat. However, you won’t be penalized for having two left feet, and the developer has stressed that his fights are never limited by music.
At the end of each chapter, Chai will have a musical showdown (definitely like Scott Pilgrim) with his boss. But instead of the usual beats, these fights come with a licensed track. Expect tracks like Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy and more.
Fortunately, Chai is not alone in his efforts. Along with his trusty robotic cat to help him keep his rhythm, and a handful of unlikely allies he can team up with to unleash devastating attacks.
Certainly not what we expected from a studio that brought us spookiness Ghostwire: Tokyo and terrifying series The Evil Within, but I can’t wait to check it out when it’s out later.
